blue is the atmospheric refraction I see you through

Presented at the Adirondack History Museum in Elizabethtown, NY, this public sculpture invites two viewers to have similar, yet distinct experiences of climbing twin spiraling staircases that are recessed into a larger dome. The twin staircases require mirrored movement, activating mirror neurons which enhance human empathy. The blue/periwinkle tone of natural pigments and binders captures the atmospheric color that hovers over faraway objects in the landscape, further reflecting on distance, subjectivity, and longing.
