recollecting Naoshima

2017
scrim, steel, hardwood, plasterboard, ceramic, concrete, digital video

An architectonic abstracted environment inspired by the Naoshima and Teshima art islands in Japan. Referencing research on spatiotemporal memory, it explores how we store and recall the sensory experience of place. A labyrinth of scrim guides viewers through shifting layers of space, concluding in a video projection that mirrors the meditative rhythm of moving through the islands.
